Fontbonne Men's Soccer Season Comes To An End In The SLIAC Semifinals Against Webster

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team saw its 2021 season come to a gut-wrenching end on Thursday night as the Griffins fell 1-0 in double overtime against Webster in the SLIAC Semifinals.

How It Happened

In the first half, the Gorloks outshot Fontbonne 8-1 but saw only two of its shots land on net and Ethan Cowell was there to make both saves for the Griffins.

Fontbonne lone chance came near the end of the half when Drew Moser's free kick attempt just went over the crossbar.

The Griffins had a chance early in the second half off a free kick, though Brandon Baumgartner's header was saved by Matt Amick.

Fontbonne had another scoring chance in the 61^st minute but Amick was there once again stopping Tanner Harris' shot. The Griffins outshot Webster 6-5 the rest of the way as Charles Gibbs final shot attempt of the half went wide left and it was off to overtime.

In the first OT, the Gorloks outshot Fontbonne 2-1, however it was still a 0-0 game and 10:00 more minutes were needed.

In the 103^rd minute, Jarret Gabriele got the ball off a throw in, crossed it into the box, and the loose ball found the foot of Mark Moore who scored the game winner giving Webster the 1-0 win.

Fontbonne Leaders

• The Griffins finished with 12 shots overall.
• Tanner Harris led with four and Baumgartner ended with three.
• In net, Ethan Cowell made six saves.
