ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team had its home opener on Sunday but despite its efforts the Griffins fell 3-1 against Wabash.
Game Breakdown
Wabash brought the pressure early in the first half with a 6-0 shot advantage through 19:00 minutes of play. Then, in the 23rd minute, a long throw in landed in the box and the loose ball found Coledon Johnson.
Johnson was able to gain control and score to the short side, his sixth on the year, giving Wabash a 1-0 lead.
Fontbonne answered right back in the 26th minute with Jared Lyeki passing the ball ahead for Joe Noah. The Cedar Hill, Mo., native, made a nice move to get past the Little Giants defender on the near post, and passed it to a wide-open Tanner Harris who scored to tie the game.
Wabash took the momentum right back, though with Bruno Zamora gathering a loose ball near the box. He passed it up for Alexis Delgado and he beat Dominic Haggard giving the Little Giants a 2-1 advantage at the break.
The Little Giants added another goal in the 49th minute of the second half and that proved to be enough for them to go on for the 3-1 victory.
