Fontbonne Men's Soccer Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short Against Westminster

Game Breakdown
It didn't take long for the Griffins to strike first. Alex Wigge had the ball near midfield and lifted a perfect pass up for Tanner Harris. The Bridgeton, Mo., native, beat Westminster goalie Chris Lannom to the loose ball and scored his fourth on the season for the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Westminster answered three minutes later. Off a free kick, Bukuru Dieudone got the ball on the right side of the field, crossed it into the box and a cutting Freddy Nene was there to bury it home to tie the game.
In the 24th minute, the Blue Jays took its first lead of the game when they were awarded a penalty kick. Mustekbel Shoune stepped up and scored giving them a 2-1 advantage at the break.
In the second half, the Griffins tied it up in the 54th minute when there was a battle for the loose ball in the box. Joe Noah came away with it and scored his second on the year.
However, the Blue Jays played spoiler once more in the 56th minute when Niklas Olsson's one-timer shot got past TJ Balducci to give Westminster a 3-2 lead.
Fontbonne continued its offensive push having a 5-1 shot advantage over the next 23:00 minutes but were unable to score the equalizer. Then, off a free kick, Westminster's Barrett Smith scored when turned out to be the game-winner into the far-right post in the 80th minute.
The Griffins cut the deficit down to 4-3 in the 87th minute on Jared Lyeki's first goal of the year off a free kick but it was the Blue Jays fending off one final Fontbonne run for the win.
