LOUISVILLE, Ky.—After narrowing its deficit down to one prior to halftime, the Fontbonne University men's soccer team suffered a tough 4-2 loss against Spalding.
Game Breakdown
It was a scoreless contest up until after the 25th minute when Ahmadou Gueye got behind the Griffins defense and buried his shot just inside the far post for the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Gueye struck again heading in the cross from Chadrack Mulondani for his 11th on the season.
In the 40th minute, the Golden Eagles scored off a corner kick from Chris Encarnacion. However, the Griffins kept battling and got on the board in the 44th minute when Jared Lyeki's corner kick attempt went off a Spalding player and into the net narrowing it down to 3-1.
With just under a minute later, the Griffins struck again. Luca Roma lifted the ball inside the box and Andrew Kneale was there to head it in putting Fontbonne down by one at the break.
In the second half, the Griffins threatened in the 58th minute but Tanner Harris' attempt was stopped by Danny Hernandez. It remained a one goal deficit for Fontbonne until the 70th minute when Ethan Eckert scored his third on the season securing the two-goal win for Spalding.
