Men's Soccer Opens Season With Dominating Win Over Owls

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team opened its season with a convincing 4-1 win over Mississippi University for Women.
Fontbonne applied the pressure early and had a chance to take the lead in the fourth minute, but Carter Youmans shot went off the crossbar.
Its efforts paid off in the 36th minute when the Owls committed a foul in the box. Joe Noah was awarded the penalty kick and he scored giving Fontbonne a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, the Griffins made it 2-0 when Nick Mormino's cross found a cutting Anthony Dalton and he buried his shot for his first on the year.
In the second half, the Owls got on the board in the 46th minute cutting the deficit down to 2-1. However, the Griffins took advantage of a misplay by Owls goalie David McCutchen in the 53rd minute.
Carter Youmans was able to gather the loose ball and find Noah who scored into the open net giving Fontbonne the two-goal advantage back. The Griffins tacked on another in the 65th minute when Youmans scored off a pass from Brandon O'Dell putting the game away and giving Fontbonne the 4-1 win.
