FULTON, Mo. - The Fontbonne University men's soccer team tied with Westminster College this evening. The Griffins moved to 9-5-3 on the season and 6-1-1 in conference play.
"I am not sure the conference has ever been this balanced," shared Head Coach Donnie Alberty. "Any team can be beaten any night. We knew this was going to be a tough match. Westminster always plays hard and I knew they would be well coached."
Both teams remained scoreless in the first period.
Westminster took the lead first eight minutes into the second half.
In the 70th minute, Joe Noah scored a goal assisted by Ryan Schwentker.
"They definitely deserve credit for putting our backs against the wall, but we found a way to find the tying goal and then Dom saved came up with the big time save on the PK with 3 minutes left. That is the second year in a row he has saved our season with a PK save with under 10 minutes to play. In a competitively balanced season like this, we are excited to have the chance to play for at least a share of the title on Saturday," concluded Alberty.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Dominic Haggard played 90 minutes on goal and recorded four saves.
Fontbonne outshot Westminster, 16-9.
