LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Fontbonne University men's soccer team saw their season come to an end in the SLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals as the Griffins fell to Spalding, 4-1.
The Griffins finished their season with a 5-13-1 overall record in 4-4-1 in SLIAC play.
Max Sarich scored the only goal for the Griffins of the day.
Spalding outshot Fontbonne, 15-14.
"It's hard to put into words how much these young men have been through," shared Head Coach Donnie Alberty. "We played our hearts out today, just like we have all year. At some point, the injuries and fatigue just became too much to overcome. I think everyone knew that we were asking them to give us an effort that really wasn't realistic, but they never complained and went out and tried to do it anyway. After everything that has happened and what we have went through, I will always love this group and these guys. They are going to go on to be awesome men and I am excited to cheer them on."
"In addition, I am just incredibly honored and proud to have led this program the last 8 years. We have always tried to play the right way and carry ourselves with class and dignity. I will always be grateful for my time and experiences here and all of the players that I have had the pleasure to coach," concluded Alberty.
