Men's volleyball opens the season with a pair of losses
Jan. 30, 2012 - The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team opened their 2012 season this weekend losing a pair of matches to NCAA Div. II Quincy University. Quincy improved to 9-0 this weekend while the Griffins fell to 0-2.
Fontbonne lost their first match 25-21, 25-20, and 25-8. In their second match, the Griffins won the first set 25-21 but then lost 25-17, 25-19 and 25-10.
In their first match, Fontbonne was led by senior Scott Ginger and Michael Visintine. Ginger paced the defense recording a team-high nine digs while Visintine led the offense with six kills.
In the second match, it was a brand new group that paced the Griffins. Junior Braxton Payne recorded 22 assists and eight digs while sophomore Mark Kurtz had a team-high 10 kills. Freshman Aaron Graue tallied nine kills in just his second collegiate match.
The Griffins return to the court next weekend in the Thiel College Tournament.
