Volleyball records first win of 2013 season
St. Louis- Coach Haston has recorded his first career victory as head coach at Fontbonne after the Griffins defeated Cazenovia on Sunday in three straight sets 25-8, 25-5, and 25-9.
The win is the first of the season as Fontbonne has a 1-4 record on the season so far.
Aaron Graue (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) led the team with 16 kills while also helping out defensively with 8 digs.
Jimmy Stika (St. Louis, MO/Affton) led the team in digs with 12 and Justin Winkelmann (O'Fallon, MO/ Ft. Zumwalt North) assisted 35 of Fontbonne's 39 kills.
Fontbonne lost to Juniata (25-14, 25-15 and 25-17), Cairn (25-15, 25-22, and 25-16) and Eastern Mennonite (25-17, 25-17 and 25-21) over the weekend as Theil College hosted a crossover in Pennsylvania.
Braxton Payne (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) recorded 7 kills against Juniata, Graue recorded 11 kills and 14 digs against Cairn, and against Eastern Mennonite Payne recorded 8 kills and 8 digs to lead the team. Stika also recorded 8 digs during the match. Winkelmann recorded 93 assists over the 4 games.
Fontbonne travels to Quincy, Illinois next Sunday, February 24th for a 5pm match against the Quincy University Hawks.
