Rujawitz hits .643 in loss to Lindenwood-Belleville
Belleville, Ill. - After being down two sets, the Griffins found their footing to win sets three and four over Lindenwood-Belleville. In the fifth set, Fontbonne succumbed to the Lynx 16-14. The win marks the Griffins' fourth loss in a row.
After losing 25-15 in the first two sets, Fontbonne rebounded for a 25-19 third-set win. The Griffins led 17-9 and then 22-14 when the Lynx scored five straight points to be within three points of the Griffins. Fontbonne was able to secure the final three points in a row.
In the fourth set, Fontbonne trailed 3-1, but scored six unanswered points for a 7-3 advantage and never trailed the Lynx for the rest of the set. Lindenwood-Belleville tied the set 19-19 with ties also at 20, 21, 22 and 23-23. The Griffins rallied for the following two points and 25-23 win.
Fifth set action was back and fourth with 13 ties. The Lynx secured their final two points for the 16-14 win on two Griffin attacking errors.
The Griffins were aggressive at the net both offensively and defensively, with their highest hitting percentage in their last four games and their greatest number of solo blocks on the year. Justin Rujawitz was a beast for Fontbonne at the net with a .643 hitting percentage and 10 kills with four solo blocks. Peter Hibbeler and Stephen Lendy connected on several blocks to shut down the Lyns. Aaron Graue recorded 14 kills on the night and Jimmy Stika tallied nine digs. Jacob Lendy was able to accrue 38 assists on the night.
The Griffins return to MCVL action this weekend at Mount St. Joseph University on Friday at 7p.m. EST and a non-conference matchup at noon EST Saturday.
