Blocking errors doom Griffins against #15 MSOE
St. Louis, Mo. - After tying the first set 10-10 on a triple block, the Griffins lost momemtum as the No. 15-ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering took all three sets from Fontbonne in the Griffins' conference opener. MSOE improves to 6-4 overall and undefeated at 3-0 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League. The loss snaps a five-game win streak for Fontbonne who is now 6-2 overall and 0-1 in MCVL play.
After MSOE led 14-8 in the second set, Fontbonne earned four straight points which included back-to-back blocks to pull within two points of the Raiders. Trailing 20-16, the Griffins fell 2-516 as MSOE closed out the set with five unanswered points.
MSOE claimed the final set 25-17. Fontbonne committed seven blocking errors in the loss and averaged just .056 at the net while the Raiders tallied a .409 hitting percentage. TJ Vorva and Brendon Schwartze each recorded six kills for Fontbonne. Jimmy Stika marked a Griffin-high seven digs while Jacob Lendy assisted 18 points.
MSOE's Sam Stealy led the game with 13 kills.
Fontbonne returns to Mabee Gymnasium to host No. 3-ranked Carthage College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
