Men's Volleyball continues win streak with win at Loras
Dubuque, Iowa - Fontbonne men's volleyball opened their final weekend of competition for this season at Loras College, defeating the Duhawks 20-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-17. The win marks the sixth consecutive for the Griffins, who are now 17-9 overall and 4-8 in conference. Fontbonne travels to North Central College tomorrow, Saturday, April 2nd for their final game of 2016.
Fontbonne led the hosts 15-12 until Loras came back to tie the game. Fontbonne led 18-17 until Loras again scored three straight, this time taking a 20-18 lead and closed out the game 25-20.
The Griffins trailed 5-3 but executed five points to take an 8-5 lead. Fontbonne maintained the advantage the rest of the game. The Griffins led 24-20 when Loras threatened with two kills and an ace. The Griffins won their first set of the match on a Duhawk service error.
Fontbonne opened third-set play up 12-6. A Griffin attack error allowed Loras to pull within two points, but the visitors put up six unanswered points to lead 20-12 and coasted to a 25-18 victory.
Fontbonne got off to a slow start in the fourth-set to find themselves down 7-5. Not detered, the Griffins took a 14-9 advantage which included an ace by Tony Pitaro and two tips by setter Jacob Lendy. A Griffin service error was preceded by four points to lead 18-10 until Loras posted five points to pull within three. Fontbonne answered with five points as well to lead 23-15 and closed out the win with two kills.
Lendy tallied five kills, 15 digs and 34 assists in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League victory. Pitaro recorded a solo block and seven block assists while Emir Hadzisalihovic's nine kills were part of a .333 hitting average for the freshman. Sophomore Stephen Lendy totalled 10 kills for the game-high along with his seven digs and five block assists.
