Griffins Extend Winning Streak Out To Four; Stephen Lendy Reaches 800 Career Kills
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University volleyball team cruised past the Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons in straight sets (25-12, 25-11, 25-12) on Friday night.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University volleyball team cruised past the Concordia-Wisconsin Falcons in straight sets (25-12, 25-11, 25-12) on Friday night.
The Griffins (12-3), compiled 38 kills, a .325 hitting percentage and tied its season-high with 11 service aces. Tony Pitaro led with nine kills and a match-high .800 hitting percentage. Kolin Scharnhorst had himself a game with eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage.
Stephen Lendy, meanwhile, totaled seven kills and that was enough to get him to the 800 mark in his career. He ranks third all-time in the record books.
TJ Vorva, meanwhile, returned to action, finishing with six kills and .625 hitting percentage. Jacob Lendy handed out a season-high 30 assists, while Zach Rothstein contributed seven digs.
The Falcons (0-18), were limited to nine kills and 15 errors for a -.105 hitting percentage. Sam Rovick led with four kills. Matthew Korman added eight assists, while Jeremy Theis had five digs.
In the first set, the Griffins opened with a 10-5 lead on Stephen Lendy's kill. They stretched it out to 20-9 on Scharnhorst's kill and went on for the 25-12 victory.
In the second, the Falcons opened with a 6-1 lead. However, Fontbonne rattled off a 5-0 run and dominated from there, going on a 19-5 run to close out the set, winning 25-11.
In the third, this time around the Griffins took a 5-0 lead on three straight kills from Scharnhorst and Pitaro (two). Later, Scharnhorst gave the Griffins a 15-8 advantage with another kill. From then on, the team outscored CUW 10-4, en route to the 25-12 set and match win.
The team returns to action tomorrow afternoon at home against Illinois Tech. First-serve goes up at 2 p.m.
