Griffins Stay Perfect At Home With A Sweep Over The Scarlet Hawks

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team swept (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) past Illinois Tech on Saturday for its fifth straight victory.
The Griffins (13-3), finished with 33 kills, nine attack errors, a .343 hitting percentage and 12 total blocks, which its season-high in a three set match.
Individually, Stephen Lendy led with nine kills and a .533 hitting percentage. Mark Klusman and Brendon Schwartze contributed six kills each, while Emir Hadzisalihovic and Braden Woolsey tied with five kills apiece. Woolsey also finished with five solo and two block assists.
Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell contributed 22 assists and eight digs, while Zach Rothstein posted a team-high nine digs of his own.
IIT (8-15), concluded with just 25 kills and 26 attack errors for a -.012 hitting percentage. Cinjun Coe led with nine kills. Setter Ben Peschl totaled 16 assists, while Coe added a team-high six digs.
In the first set, the Griffins opened with an 8-6 lead and stretched it out to 12-6 on a Stephen Lendy kill and that forced the Scarlet Hawks to take a timeout. They expanded the lead to 20-12 on Woolsey's kill and they went on from there for the 25-17 win.
After back and forth play early in the second, the Griffins gained some breathing room at 14-8 on a block assist from Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell and Emir Hadzisalihovic's block assist. The Scarlet Hawks cut it down to 20-15, however, the Griffins closed out the set on a 5-0 run, winning 25-15.
In the third, the Griffins jumped out to a 10-4 lead on Woolsey's solo block. Later in the set, the Scarlet Hawks got a kill from Evan Robeck to make it 17-14. It was all Fontbonne the rest of the way, finishing off the match on an 8-3 run, capped off by Klusman's kill for the 25-17 win.
The Griffins will take a week off before hitting the court on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th. On Friday, March 23rd, they'll take on No. 2-ranked Carthage at 7 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the Griffins go toe-to-toe with North Central.
