Men's Volleyball Picked To Finish First In MCVL Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball Conference released the 2020 MCVL Preseason Poll and for the first time in program history the Griffins come in at No. 1.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball Conference released the 2020 MCVL Preseason Poll and for the first time in program history the Griffins come in at No. 1.
Fontbonne collected 25 points and five first-place votes after winning the MCVL Tournament in 2019. Mount St. Joseph comes in at No. 2 with 20 points and one first-place vote, while Mount Union, Adrian College, Trine University, and Olivet round out the field.
The Griffins are coming off a program-record 26-win campaign a season ago. The team captured its first-ever MCVL Tournament Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The team ended the season ranked 12th nationally which is its highest in program history.
This year, the Griffins bring back MCVL First Team honoree Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell where he posted career-highs in assists (970), assists per set (10.54), and digs (233). Also, back for his senior season is libero and MCVL Second Team selectee, Zach Rothstein.
Braden Woolsey returns to lead the offense after setting new career-high marks in kills (150), kills per set (1.83), solo blocks (28), block assists (58), and total blocks (78).
The Griffins will have its Alumni Game on January 14th and from there will head out to California for a four-game stretch in three days. The team will open the regular season against Cal Lutheran on January 16th.
