Rothstein Named MCVL Defensive Player of the Year, Graves, Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell, and Woolsey Earn All-Conference Honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) released the 2020 All-Conference Team and the Griffins came away with four honorees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) released the 2020 All-Conference Team and the Griffins came away with four honorees.
Zach Rothstein was named MCVL Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career and earned All-Conference First Team honors.
He was joined on the First Team by first timer Cameron Graves and Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell who takes home the awarded for the second straight season. Braden Woolsey, meanwhile, made his first appearance on the All-Conference Team as he garnered Second Team honors.
Rothstein, an Evergreen Park, Ill., native, ended the shortened 2020 campaign with 156 digs and ranked third in the MCVL with 2.79 digs per set. He ends his career as the all-time leader defensively and the lone player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career digs (1,084). Nationally, he finishes ninth all-time in the record books in total digs and fourth in digs per set (3.25).
He's a three-time All-MCVL selection, twice on the First Team and earned MCVL Defensive Player of the Week honor a record eight times.
Graves, a Santa Clarita, Calif., native, had a breakout year on the court for the Griffins as he led with 184 kills and a .191 hitting percentage. He totaled a career-high 22 kills in a tough five-set loss against Adrian back on February 22nd. He also finished fourth in the MCVL with 3.29 kills per set.
Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell is back on the First Team for the second straight season. He ended the year with 521 assists in 16 matches and ranked third in the MCVL with 9.30 assists per set.
His four-year career ends as the all-time leader at Fontbonne in assists (2,824), fourth in digs (763), and seventh in blocks (120).
Woolsey, an Edwardsville, Ill., native, ended overall second in the MCVL with a .311 hitting percentage, to go along with his 116 kills and 39 blocks.
