Fontbonne Men's Volleyball Advances To MCVL Championship After Sweep Over Trine

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team advanced to the MCVL Championship for the second straight season after sweeping past Trine on Friday night.

Set Notes

Set 1: The Griffins jumped out to a 15-9 lead on Joseph Huster's kill. The Thunder kept battling and took a 21-20 lead on Ted Hofmesister's kill.

From there, the two teams went point-for-point until consecutive kills from Ryan Lively secured the 27-25 win. Fontbonne had 14 kills and a .300 hitting percentage in the first with Lively having four kills.

Set 2: The Thunder remained in control early in the second having a 19-13 lead after a Fontbonne service error. Fontbonne eventually started to chip away at the deficit and tied it up at 21-21 on a Thunder attack error.

Hofmesiter gave Trine the lead back on a kill, but Fontbonne closed out the set on a 4-0 run with Huster's kill giving Fontbonne the 25-23 win.

The Griffins had its struggles offensively with seven kills and .094 hitting percentage. Fontbonne had six block assists in the second set.

Set 3: Fontbonne carried that momentum over into the third opening with an 8-1 lead. The Thunder got the deficit down to 21-19, but the Griffins remained in control securing the 25-21 match win on Nate Paasch's kill.

• Fontbonne finished with 32 kills and a .207 hitting percentage.
• Trine totaled 40 kills and a .222 hitting percentage.       
• At the net, the Griffins had one solo block and 12 block assists.
• Trine committed 17 service errors.

• Ryan Lively and Nate Paasch tied with 10 kills each.
• Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell ended with 28 assists.
• Defensively, the Griffins accounted for 34 digs led by Ryan Taylor with 11.
