Set Notes
Set 1: In the first set, the Griffins jumped out to an 8-5 lead but the Purple Raiders answered with a 7-2 run with a double block from Andrew Cross and Jacob Nussdorfer giving them a 12-10 lead.
The two teams were all square at 20-20 until a kill from Joseph Huster gave Fontbonne a 21-20 advantage. From there, the Griffins finished off the Purple Raiders for the 25-22 victory on Ryan Lively's kill.
Fontbonne had 15 kills in the first led by Huster with six on eight swings for a .625 hitting percentage.
Set 2: In the second set, the Griffins held a 10-6 lead on Nate Paasch's kill. The Purple Raiders trailed 14-13, but went on a 5-0 run forcing Fontbonne to take a timeout.
Fontbonne got the deficit down to 23-22 on a kill from Kolin Scharnhorst, however, the Purple Raiders got consecutive kills from Nussdorfer and Sam Matonis for the 25-22 win. Fontbonne had 17 kills in the second with Ryan Lively and Huster having five each.
Set 3: The Purple Raiders carried that momentum over into the third taking a 15-9 lead on Nussdorfer's kill. Mount Union remained in control the rest of the way going on for the 25-16 win.
Set 4: In the fourth, the Griffins came out with a sense of urgency taking a 16-12 lead. They remained in control up until the Purple Raiders tied it at 20-20.
Mount Union eventually grabbed a 22-21 lead on a double block from Cameron Ternent and Andrew Cross. The Purple Raiders went on to fend off Fontbonne for the 25-22 match win.
