Men's Volleyball Sweeps Past Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill.—The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team got back on the winning track on Friday night with a sweep over Dominican. Fontbonne goes to 3-4 overall, while the Stars fall to 0-3.

Set Notes

Set 1: ­The Griffins trailed 6-5 early, but outscored Dominican 12-4 to take a commanding 17-9 lead on Alex Gantt's service ace.

Fontbonne were able to put the Stars away from there going on for the 25-16 win on on a double block from Logan Irby and Demitrius Allen.

Fontbonne dominated the first set with 11 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Dominican had its struggles out of the gate with four kills and seven errors for a negative -.167 hitting percentage. Ryan Lively led the floor with four kills.

Set 2: It was back-and-forth action early in the second until the Griffins started to pull away leading 14-10 on a bad set by Dominican.

The Stars kept hanging around trying to mount a comeback down 23-21, but a kill from Lively and another double block by Allen and Irby secured the win.

Fontbonne had nine kills on 18 swings in the second for a .389 hitting percentage. Lively led with three kills to give him seven through two sets.

Set 3: It was the Stars this time around having the early lead and expanding it out to 18-13 forcing Fontbonne to take a timeout.

Out of the break, the Griffins tied it up at 21-21 on a Dominican attack error. The two teams went point-for-point until a kill from Cameron Graves and another bad set by Dominican gave Fontbonne the 25-23 set and match win.
