Fontbonne rebounds for 21-2 and 6-1 wins over Blackburn

St. Louis- After losing their first of 21 games, Fontbonne softball rebounded for a 21-2 win over Blackburn College in five inngs on Saturday. Madi Leonard struck out seven of the ten batters she faced. Leonard gave up one walk and didn't allow a hit. Shelby Faulkner replaced Leonard in the fourth, allowing two hits in two innings.
Fontbonne's offense lit up Blackburn from the start as all nine Griffins stepped up to the plate in the first. Most notably, Cara Hargate hit a monster home run straight over the left field scoreboard. The Griffins scored five runs in the first, third and fourth innings while adding six during the second. Blackburn scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth.
Marissa Simon hit two doubles and Danni Glixman added one in the second inning along with a sacrifice fly. Shannon Fitzpatrick sole two bases with D. Glixman and Sarah Cerutti adding one apiece. D. Glixman recorded four RBI's, Hargate and Morgan Baer totaled three each, while Cassi Glixman, Jessie Pratt, Lindsay Schaefer and Simon each recorded two RBI's.
Freshman Michelle Boyer recorded her second win of the season in round two on Saturday as Fontbonne won 6-1. Boyer allowed one run on three hits in six innings against the Beavers. Faulkner didn't allow a hit in the seventh inning.
Fontbonne committed three errors however the Griffin offense overpowered those mistakes. C. Glixman hit a home run and doubled during the game for three RBI's as Hargate added her second double of the day.
Blackburn committed one error and each team turned one double play.
Fontbonne travels to MacMurray on Tuesday, April 22nd and hosts Washington University this Friday, April 25th for the first time in school history. Game times on Friday are at 5pm and 7pm at ABC Ballpark.
