Softball Tabbed For Sixth In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2020 Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish in sixth.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2020 Preseason Poll and the Griffins are picked to finish in sixth.
The reigning SLIAC Champions, Eureka, sit atop the poll with 71 points and six first-place votes. Both Westminster and Spalding are tied for second with 63 points, while Iowa Wesleyan rounds out the top four with 58 points and two first-place votes.
The Griffins are coming off a 10-25 overall record from 2019 and finished 8-10 in conference play. This season, the team returns seven players and welcomes in nine newcomers to replace a departed group of seniors that includes Diamond Thomas, Emelia Modglin, Maddy Strickland, Melanie Russo, and Emily McNiff.
Offensively, Lexi Becker is back for her sophomore season where she'll look to build off her .316 average, totaling 30 hits, 14 runs scored, and 16 RBI. She's the lone starter returning from last year after totaling 10 strikeouts and a 4.81 ERA in 59.2 innings pitched.
Grace Harlin also returns for her sophomore season where she batted .237, to go along with her 21 runs scored, 23 hits and nine RBI.

The 2020 season gets underway on February 22nd in Memphis when they'll open against Defiance and host Rhodes.
