How It Happened
After Concordia Chicago got on the board in the first, the Griffins answered in the bottom half with Abby Richmond plating both Grace Harlin and Lilly Jones on an RBI single to center.
In the fourth, the Griffins broke the game wide open plating four runs on three hits with Abby Richmond and Lexi Becker each picking up an RBI.
The Cougars cut the deficit down to 6-3 in the third but Fontbonne answered right back in the home half plating three runs on two hits. Hannah Miener started things off with a walk and she raced around to touch home on Patience Vandermeirden's triple.
Lilly Jones brought Vandermeirden home with an RBI and Abby Richmond closed out the inning with an RBI single of her own. The Griffins tacked on three more in the fourth for the mercy-rule run victory.
Fontbonne Top Performers
- Richmond had a day going 3-for-3 with a run scored and career-high four RBI.
- Miener went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.
- Vandermeirden hit two triples, scored twice and added an RBI.
- Becker picked up her first win inside the circle tossing 3.0 innings and sitting down three.
