How It Happened
After Spalding took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, the Griffins plated three runs on three hits in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead.
Grace Harlin got things started with a single and after stealing second she scored on Grace Paez RBI single to right. Two batters later, an error by the Golden Eagles, allowed Paez to score to tie the game. Patience Vandermierden followed with an RBI single to center and give Fontbonne the one-run lead.
In the fifth, the Griffins broke the game wide open scoring five runs on three hits and were helped out by two Golden Eagles errors.
The Griffins plated two more in the fourth on Gracie Morris' two-run shot, her first on the year, to make it a 10-2 mercy-rule final.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Morris led going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Skylar Freeman went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a season-high two RBI.
- Lilly Jones, Paez, and Vandermierden each had a hit and an RBI.
- Freeman got her first win on the season tossing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out two.

How It Happened
The Griffins wasted zero time putting the Golden Eagles in an early hole. Lexi Becker led off with a double and Grace Harlin got hit-by-pitch to put two runners on.
After a sacrifice-bunt, the Griffins took a 1-0 lead on Gracie Morris' RBI single to center. Two batters later, Lilly Jones brought Morris and Harlin home with an two RBI double to right. Logan Darrow kept the line moving and capped off the inning with an RBI single to left scoring Jones.
The Golden Eagles got one of those runs back in the second but an RBI single from Paez had Fontbonne back ahead by four (5-1).
However, the Golden Eagles added another in the third and took a 6-5 lead in the fourth after scoring four runs on four hits.
In the bottom half, though the Griffins got the advantage right back with both Becker and Harlin tallying two out RBI to give them a 7-6 lead. From there, Abby Richmond and the Griffins defense were able to hang on for the one-run win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Becker led at the top of the lineup going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
- Jones went 1-for-3 with a run scored and tied her season-high with two RBI.
- Harlin, Paez, Morris, and Darrow had one hit each.
- Richmond improved to 3-4 on the year after tossing 3.1 innings out of the pen and sitting down one.
