Nine Fontbonne Softball Players Earn SLIAC Postseason Awards
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 All-Conference Teams today and the Griffins came away with nine honorees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2021 All-Conference Teams today and the Griffins came away with nine honorees.
Gracie Morris was named to the First Team, while Abby Richmond and Lexi Becker earned Second Team honors. Grace Paez, Lilly Jones, Patience Vandermierden, Madison Galczynski, and Grace Harlin collected Third Team honors. Skylar Freeman was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Morris, a Florissant, Mo., native, earns her first SLIAC All-Conference selection after setting career-highs in average (.278), on-base percentage (.327), slugging percentage (.56), runs scored (16), hits (25), home runs (four), and RBI (22). In conference play, Morris batted .381 with four homers and 19 RBI.
Richmond, a Ballwin, Mo., native, also earns her first SLIAC All-Conference selection as a pitcher. At the dish, Richmond hit a career-high .254 with four doubles and 13 RBI.
Inside the circle, she's been dominant with six complete games, to go along with her career-highs in starts (13), ERA (1.98), wins (eight), innings pitched (88.1), and strikeouts (25).
Becker, a St. Louis, Mo., native, is on the SLIAC Second Team as a utility player for the first time in her career. The junior batted .393 on the year, to go along with a career-high .466 on-base percentage.
She's compiled other new career-highs with 36 runs scored, 46 hits, 16 walks, and seven stolen bases. Against conference foes, Becker led the Griffins with a .422 average, 19 hits and 14 runs scored.
Paez, a St. Louis, Mo., native, dominated in her first season with the Griffins batting a team-high .417 and .504 slugging percentage. She added team-highs with 48 hits and 32 RBI. In SLIAC play, Paez batted .333 with 13 hits and 10 RBI.
Jones, a Benton, Mo., native, also earns her first SLIAC All-Conference Team selection. She's had a career season with a .352 average, 37 hits, 30 runs scored, 18 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. In 14 conference games, the sophomore infielder batted .383 with 18 hits, eight RBI, and six stolen bases.
Vandermierden, a Leopold, Mo., native, hit .327 on the season, totaling 32 hits, 15 runs scored, tied for the team-high with seven doubles, two triples, and 16 RBI. In conference play, the sophomore hit .351 with 13 hits.
Galczynski had a strong freshman season batting .369 totaling 31 hits, 25 runs scored, and ranked second on the team with 12 stolen bases. In her 11 conference appearances, the St. Louis, Mo., native, hit .320 with a team-high nine stolen bases.
Harlin, a Findlay, Mo., native, is on the SLIAC Third Team after batting .340 in 34 games, totaling a career-high 35 hits, 23 runs scored, seven doubles, one homer and 20 RBI. In conference play, Harlin batted .310 with 13 hits and nine runs scored.
Freeman, a Flora, Ill., native, batted a career-high .268 with 11 hits and 10 runs scored. Inside the circle, she finished with a 5.97 ERA in a career-high 13 appearances and struck out six.
