Fontbonne Softball Hitters Combine for 28 Hits Against Westminster in Conference Match-Up

Game 1 Breakdown
Lead-off batter, Lilly Jones (.404 average) got on to start the first inning with a single and advanced on a stolen base. Senior, Hannah Miener, singled driving home Jones and earned an RBI, 1-0. The Blue Jays bounced right back in the bottom of inning scoring two runs on three hits, 1-2.
In the top of the third, Lilly Jones continued her hot streak with another single and advanced on a passed ball. Freshman, Allysa Ibarra, singled scoring Jones on the play, 2-2. The Griffins' defense were able to get three quick outs to hold the Blue Jays, 2-2.
The fourth inning was a big inning for the Griffins as the bats came alive. Senior, Lexi Becker, singled. Grace Harlin reached on an error, advancing Becker to third. Michaela Mason doubled, scoring Becker. Gracie Morris (.435 average) was hit by a pitch, loading up the bases. Freshman, Kassidy Chrisco, hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Harlin. Lilly Jones' hitting streak continued with another single, advancing the runners. Allysa Ibarra reached on a fielder's choice, bringing around Mason to score. Hannah Miener singled, loading up the bases again. Ellie Bartlett reached on an error and drove in two runs for the Griffins, 7-2.
The Blue Jays came out fired up in the bottom of the fifth inning, ringing up six runs on seven hits to answer back and take the lead, 7-8.
Fontbonne showed some grit in the top of the sixth inning. Lilly Jones reached on an error and tallied up another stolen base to take second. Allysa Ibarra singled. Hannah Miener singled to left field, scoring Jones. Pinch hitter, Grace Paez, doubled to left field, driving in Ibarra, 9-8.
The Griffins hold the Blue Jays scoreless in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings and take the win, 9-8.

Game 2 Breakdown
Fontbonne was looking to continue their winning streak in game two against Westminster, and their bats did not disappoint. With two outs in the top of the first, Hannah Miener singled to center field. Freshman, Abby Alonzo, hit a big home run to right field, driving in Miener and putting Fontbonne on top early, 2-0.
Lexi Becker led off in the top of the second with a walk. Gracie Morris singled to center field. Logan Darrow singled to center, advancing the runners and loading up the bases. Lilly Jones reached on an error and scored Becker on the play. Allysa Ibarra tripled to right field, bringing around Jones and Darrow to score. The Griffins extend the lead to 5-0.
Abby Alonzo stayed on a hot streak with a single to left field to begin the top of the third inning. Grace Harlin walked. Lexi Becker singled to center field, loading up the bases. Grace Paez singled, scoring Alonzo on the play. Gracie Morris reached on an error, which drove in two runs. Logan Darrow singled to right field but was thrown out while trying to extend the hit to a double. Lilly Jones reached on an error, earning another RBI and scoring Morris. Allysa Ibarra walked. Hannah Miener doubled to center field, driving in Ibarra and bringing the Fontbonne lead to 11-0.
In the top of the fourth, Lexi Becker continued her great day at the plate with a single to left field. Grace Paez followed that up with a single to right field, advancing Becker to third. Pinch hitter, Sam Foppe, singled to right field, scoring Becker on the play, 12-0. The Blue Jays string together two hits to get on the board, 12-1.
Maddie Holtmeyer led off in the top of the fifth with a walk. Allysa Ibarra singled to center field, advancing Holtmeyer to second. Alaina Hotop reached on a fielder's choice, moving Holtmeyer to third. The Blue Jays walked hot hitter, Abby Alonzo. Grace Harlin singled to right field, scoring Holtmeyer to bring the lead to 13-1. Westminster was not able to generate enough runs to make it past five innings. Fontbonne takes game two, 13-2.
