Softball Sweeps Eureka
EUREKA, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team swept Eureka College this Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins improve to an 11-12 overall record and 2-1 in conference play.

EUREKA, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team swept Eureka College this Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins improve to an 11-12 overall record and 2-1 in conference play.
Game One:
The Griffins defeated the Red Devils, 5-2.
Grace Paez reached on a fielder's choice bringing home Makenzie Howell and Lilly Jones, in the first inning.
Eureka scored one run in the second inning and one in the third inning to tie the game, 2-2.
On the top of the fifth, Grace Paez hit an RBI single scoring Madelyn Holtmeyer. On the top of the sixth, Lilly Jones reached on a fielder's choice scoring Jaynanne Roate, to extend the Griffins' lead to 4-2. After a single to the left field by Allysa Ibarra on the top of the seventh, Ashley Carrow scored the final run of the game.
Kami Matthews (2-3) grabbed the win in the circle. She pitched 3.0 innings and struck out one while allowing six hits and two runs. Bailee Whittaker pitched 2.0 innings and struck out two while allowing one run. Hailey Kutz had the save. She pitched 2.0 innings and struck out five.
Game Two:
The Griffins took a 10-5 win over the Red Devils.
Eureka started off the first innings with a 4-0 lead over the Griffins.
On the top of the third, Allysa Ibarra hit a double to the right field to bring home Lilly Jones, Brenna Foley and Kassidy Chrisco. Ashley Carrow hit a 2 RBI homerun to score Allysa Ibarra and grab the lead of the game, 5-4.
On the top of the fourth, Patience Vandermierden scored after a single from Lilly Jones. Allysa Ibarra hit a single to the pitched to bring home Kassidy Chrisco. After Grace Paez walked, Brenna Foley scored. Ashley Carrow flied out into double play to score Lilly Jones and extend the lead for the Griffins to 9-4.
On the top of the fifth, Brenna Foley hit an RBI single to bring home Sam Foppe.
On the bottom of the sixth, Eureka scored the final run of the game with a homer, 10-5.
Abby Alonzo pitched 0.0 innings and allowed two hits and four runs. Hannah Borgmeyer (1-0) was credited with the win. She pitched 2.1 innings and had two hits. Hailey Kutz pitched 4.2 innings and struck out 10 while allowing two hits and one run.

The Griffins will have their home opener against Blackburn in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 15. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
