Softball Sweeps Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Fontbonne University softball team swept SLIAC opponent Blackburn College this afternoon. The team improves to 20-14 on the season and 11-3 in conference play.

Game One

The Griffins earned a win over Blackburn, 5-4.

The Griffins started off strong with a 4-0 lead.

Patience Vandermierden walked scoring Alysa Ibarra, on the top of the first.

On top of the second, Lilly Jones reached first on an error by second base bringing home Brenna Foley. Grace Paez advanced to second on a wild pitch bringing home Lilly Jones. Allysa Ibarra scored one more.

Blackburn hit a three RBI homer to cut the deficit by one, 4-3.

On top of the sixth, Lilly Jones hit a triple to left field to bring Kassidy Chrisco home.

Blackburn hit their second homer of the day but were unable to come back, 5-4.

Hailey Kutz (7-4) pitched 6.0 innings and took the win. She struck out nine while allowing six hits and four runs.

Bailee Whittaker pitched 1.0 inning and struck out one.

Game Two

The Griffins blanked Blackburn, 5-0.

Grace Paez hit an RBI single to left field bringing home Lily Jones.

Makenzie Howell hit an RBI single to center field to score Kassidy Chrisco.

Kassidy Chrisco hit a sac to bring home Madelyn Holtmeyer.

Makenzie Howell hit an RBI double to left field to score Kassidy Chrisco and Brenna Foley.

Kami Matthews (4-4) pitched the complete game and took the win in the circle. She struck out five and allowed five hits.

The Griffins return to action for their final two games of regular season at home. They face Spalding in a doubleheader on Friday, May 5 at 3 p.m. where they will be celebrating senior day. Then, they will conclude regular season against Webster on Sunday, May 7 at 12 p.m.
