LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The first seeded Fontbonne University softball team is championship bound after going 1-1 during day two of the SLIAC Tournament.
Fontbonne improves to 21-19 on the season.
The Griffins fell to Greenville on game one, 2-1, then defeated Spalding in an amazing come from behind victory, 8-4.
Game one
Greenville put an early lead in the top of the first after hitting a homer and it wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when the Griffins scored a run. However, the Griffins responded with a run in the top of the seventh to win the game.
Makenzie Howell, Grace Paez, and Karmen Daniels each had two hits.
Howell scored the only run of the game for the Griffins.
Hailey Kutz took the loss in the circle after pitching the complete game. She struck out four while allowing five hits and two runs.
Game two
Although Spalding had an early lead in the game, the Griffins added six runs in the sixth inning for the comeback.
Allysa Ibarra and Macy Brown each had three hits.
Brown scored two runs.
Sam Foppe started in the circle for the Griffins. She pitched five innings, striking out one while allowing four hits and two runs.
Hailey Kutz came in as a relief to take the win in the circle. She pitched 1.2 innings, striking out two while allowing two hits and two runs.
Up Next
The Griffins will face Greenville tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the championship round. If Fontbonne wins the game, the winner-take-all game will begin approximately 30 minutes after.
