St. Louis, MO - The Fontbonne University softball team put on a spectacular performance in their latest doubleheader, securing two dominant victories and marking a special milestone for Head Coach Roni Knittig, who notched their 50th career win against the UHSP Eutectics.
Game One
Despite the rain delay knocking the first game back 58 minutes, the Griffins exploded offensively, cruising to a commanding 11-5 victory. The team's bats were on fire, led by standout performances from Ashley Carrow and Macy Brown, who combined for five hits. Grace Paez, Karmen Daniels, Brenna Foley, Jillian Mengel, Sam Foppe, Abby Alonzo, and Allysa Ibarra all added one hit each to the scoreboard. Foppe performed on the mound with two strikeouts.
Game Two
The momentum carried into game two, where Fontbonne delivered another statement win, overpowering their opponent with a final score of 15-3. Daniels delivered a clutch performance at the plate, launching a single to center field allowing for Paez to score, sparking a big inning. Meanwhile, Alonzo stepped to the mount and displayed a dominant performance, holding the opposing lineup in check with four strikeouts.
Beyond the impressive offensive and defensive efforts, the day was extra special for Coach Knittig, who achieved her 50th career win at the helm of the Griffins. Since taking over the program, Knittig has played a pivotal role in developing a winning culture and leading Fontbonne to continued success on the field.
"I'm honored and happy that I was able to achieve my 50th win here at Fontbonne," said Knittig. "I've been a part of the coaching staff for seven years and going into my third year as a head coach. Couldn't have accomplished this goal without the staff I have with me and these amazing student-athletes."
The Griffins will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup against the Westminster Bluejays on Wednesday, April 2. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
