Buehler, Horneker post solid performances at Illinois College
Jacksonville, Ill. - The men's and women's track and field teams continued the indoor season at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Illinois College on Saturday.
On the women's side Becca Buehler took home the team's runner-of-the-meet honors. Her 400-meter dash time of 63.62 seconds placed Buehler 14th out of 51 participants. In her first 400m of the season, her time was just .08 seconds off of her indoor personal best from last year. Buehler came back in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 28.59 seconds, which was over a second faster than her previous indoor personal best. Fellow sophomores Taylor McGowen and Annie McKenzie had promising first showings in the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively.
On the men's side Justin Horneker ran a season best in the mile, placing 7th out of 47 competitors. He won heat 2 of 5 in a dominating fashion, in 4:39.99. Horneker would double back in the 800-meter run with teammate Cristian Sellars, although both had lackluster performances. Clayton Bond utilized a good start out of the blocks and a competitive finish to propel him to a season best in the 200-meter dash, running 25.39 seconds. Bond ran 7.84 seconds in the 60-meter dash earlier in the day.
