Griffins set seven new records at first indoor meet
Indianapolis, Ind. -The University of Indianapolis hosted their Winter Break Meet tonight and the Fontbonne track and field proved they are ready for action to continue next month, breaking three records and establishing four more in their opening indoor meet.
"It was a good opportunity to get on the track and get some of the nerves and anxiety out for our freshmen and returners," commented Coach Buckler.
First-year runner, junior Chris Graham slipped across the finish line .02 seconds faster than the previous 60m record in 7.72 seconds. Kelly Mundwiller broke her own indoor shot put, tossing 9.15m.
Meanwhile, freshmen Craig Niethe and Quinn Wilson will look to improve on their newly established records. Niethe now owns the freshmen 400 record with a time of 57.59, while he also set the school and freshmen records in the 60m hurdle in 9.67 seconds. Wilson tied the Griffins' top male high jump mark at 5'6", which is a new freshmen mark to beat.
Mundwiller threw in the weight throw for the first time in school history setting the bar at 6.52 meters.
Also competing for the Griffins were freshmen Jaylah Jones (long jump and shot put), Brianna Burnett (long jump and 200m) and sophomore Gabi Cruts (60m). Cruts' 8.43 dash was just .10 seconds slower than her record time last season.
Fontbonne doesn't compete against competition again until January 10th when they travel to Tennessee State for the Ed Temple Classic.
