Distance runners carry Griffins at Depauw Indoor Invitational
Greencastle, Ind. - Fontbonne track and field saw a much-improved performance by both teams today from a year ago at the DePauw Indoor Invitational.
For the men, Cristian Sellars beat his own school record in the 600m by almost three seconds finishing in third place to earn the Griffins six points. Chris Brown set a new personal record in the 800m run with a time of 2:08.64 while the men's 4x400 relay of Craig Niethe, Chris Graham, Quinn Wilson, and Sellars ran the second fastest time in school history.
The women's team scored 17 points, a major improvement from just six a year ago. Brianna Burnett set a new personal record time in the 200 as did teammate Savannah Davis while Jennie Stare set a PR as well in the 800m run. Kaitlin Becherer set a new school record in the women's 600 after earning fifth place.
Annie McKenzie took fifth place in two events: the 1000m and 5000m runs, while also setting a new personal record in the 5000. Sophomore Cathy Maschmeyer earned more points for the Griffins with her sixth place finish in the 1000m run. To round it off, the women's 4x400 relay of Becherer, Burnett, Taylor McGowen and Stare ran a new personal best of over 12 seconds.
Fontbonne will take next week off as they prepare for the SLIAC Invitational at Principia College on Friday, February 26th.
