Field and hurdle events thrive at WashU Invite
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne track and field had quite a day at neighboring Washington University Friday night and Saturday.
Gabi Cruts finished third in her 100m heat, running 12.91 seconds, just .06 seconds off her best time and school record. The sophomore finished the race in 32nd place out of 66 runners and ahead of her conference counterparts from Greenville and Principia. She then ran a 28.11 200m, sixth best in the record books.
Brianna Burnett now owns the school's fifth fastest 400m time (1:06.98). Kelly Mundwiller's big event of the day was in the discus, throwing a personal record 25.34m, five meters farther and just 3.50 meters short of the school record from 2002. She narrowly missed the javelin record as well in her first appearance, throwing 26.93m, two meters shy of the Griffin record. She also established the women's hammer throw with a 31.51m toss.
On the men's side, Tyler Williams broke his own school-record in the 100m, running 11.23 seconds, .14 seconds faster than two weeks ago. He tied for 33rd in the race out of 83 runners. Freshman Craig Niethe established the Fontbonne 110m hurdles with a time of 16.22 seconds, finishing 17th of 30. He later shattered his own records in the 400m hurdles that he established in the Griffins' opening outdoor meet with a time of 59.86 seconds. His first run at the Billiken Kickoff was 67.13 seconds.
Quinn Wilson established both the outdoor and freshman high jump records with a jump of 1.70m. Wilson was also busy friday night, writing a new mark in the school and freshman triple jump with an 11.95m jump.
Fontbonne travels down the road once again to Saint Louis University next weekend, April 8-9, for the Billiken Invitational.
