Field events lead Griffins at SIUE Invite
Edwardsville, Ill. - Fontbonne track and field had their best outing this weekend at the SIUE Gateway Invite, highlighted by the field events.
The throws group dominated the side for the Griffins led by Kelly Mundwiller' s performances. Mundwiller had a great day led by her conference-leading javelin throw of 31.53 meters which broke the school's javelin record from 2002 that was held by Sr. Sarah Heger. Additionally, she crushed her own school record by four feet in the hammer throw with a throw of 32.73 meters.
Next up was Chris Graham, in his first outdoor meet of year returning from injury. Graham shattered the old school record in the hammer throw by over 57 feet and threw the javelin 34.56 meters just outside of the school record of 35.25.
Also improving in throws were Jennie Stare with a five-foot improvement and Quinn Wilson with a 16-foot improvement in the javelin throw. Brianna Burnett had a PR in long jump of 4.43 meters.
On the track side, the women's 4x100 relay team of Savannah Davis, Gabi Cruts, Burnett, and Taylor McGowen, broke set a new school record for the third time this season with a time of 52.93. Kaitlin Becherer improved her best time in the 800m outdoor event by five seconds and Anne McKenzie improved her best time in the 3,000m by 13 seconds.
Next up for the men and women's squad will by the Redhawk Invitational in two weeks, hosted by Miami University.
