Five Griffins score double-digits in 79-54 win over Principia
St. Louis- Fontbonne University women's basketball defeated SLIAC foe Principia College tonight 79-54. The Griffins are 3-10 overall (2-2 SLIAC) while the Panthers fall to 1-7 overall and are winless in SLIAC play.
The first half was back and forth all the way until near the end. The largest lead of the half was the halftime score. Fontbonne was up by 9 (31-22).
Principia's Jessica Bushong would get into foul trouble accumulating 3 personal fouls in the 1st half. With a squad of 7, the Panthers couldn't afford her to get into foul trouble. With 12:30 remaining in the game, Bushong and Karina Olsen both accumulated 5 fouls. With no substitutes, the Panthers were forced to play with only 4 players on the court. Fontbonne took advantage of the opportunity and pressed full-court. The Griffins were able to secure a 25-point lead with 3:30 remaining.
Principia's Katie Corbitt recorded 10 points in the first half and 17 in the second to give her a game-high 27 points on the night. Olsen recorded a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) for the Panthers before fouling out.
Fontbonne's Kristin Dempsey and Samantha Voegtle each recorded a double-double for the Griffins. Dempsey recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench while Voegtle ended the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Hogan finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals for the Griffins. Two other Griffins finished the night in double-digits. Kaitlyn Brame ended with 10 points and Erika Kuhn recorded 13 points in her collegiate starting debut. Both Brame and Kuhn also brought in 7 rebounds.
The Griffins travel to MacMurray Saturday to take on the Highlanders at 1pm and return to the Dunham Student Activity Center next Tuesday for a 6pm tipoff against Blackburn.
