Lady Blue Jays fly out of locker room to control the 2nd half
St. Louis- Women's basketball falls to Westminster College (55-70) for the second time this season. The Griffins slip to 6th in the SLIAC standings after playing nine conference games. Greenville and Spalding, sitting at the #4 and #5 spots respectively have only played eight conference games so far. Westminster sits at the top of the line with an 8-1 SLIAC record.
The score was tight throughout the 1st half with Fontbonne following Westminster into the locker room 26-28. The Blue Jays flew up and down the court going on a 19-4 run the first 7 minutes back in action. Westminster would outscore the Griffins in the second half 42-29.
Griffin freshman Samantha Voegtle and Blue Jay Leigh Ann Lutz shared the game high 18 points tonight. Voegtle narrowly missed a double-double also recording 9 rebounds. Kristin Dempsey reeled in 10 points for the Griffins off the bench while also contributing 8 rebounds.
Fontbonne is at home this Saturday to take on the Spalding University Eagles. The basketball coaches will be wearing sneakers as the team promotes Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers weekend. Tip-off is slated for 1pm.
