Kuhn connects on 14 of 16 from the line; Propels Griffins to victory over Spalding
St. Louis- Fontbonne freshman Erika Kuhn connected on 14 of 16 free throws and pulled in 14 rebounds to give the Griffins the edge in the 2nd half over the Spalding University Golden Eagles. This was Kuhn's first double-double of her collegiate career as well as a career-high in both points and rebounds.
Leading 14-11 with 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half, Spalding scored 7 unanswered points before Kuhn was able to begin her contributions for the Griffins. Fontbonne then scored 7 unanswered points themselves.
With 1:38 to go, Spalding led 25-21. Fontbonne would go on a 7-2 run to have the edge at the half 28-27.
Fontbonne's biggest lead of the game came with just a minute remaining. The Griffins were leading 60-52 before Spalding starting to foul to try to freeze the Griffins at the line.
Katie Dennison would try to reign in the Eagles, scoring 2 3-point buckets within the final 17 seconds of the game. Fontbonne was able to control their final possession to secure the 65-61 win.
Griffin senior Allison Hogan recorded the game-high 16 points on the afternoon. Hillary Johnson and Kristin Dempsey also recorded double-digit points for the Griffins with 12 and 11 respectively.
Spalding's Lindsay Roarx scored the Golden Eagle-high 15 points. She also contributed with 8 rebounds.
Fontbonne stays at home on Tuesday to take on the MacMurray College Highlanders at 6pm.
