Voegtle's 20 points not enough to overtake MacMurray
St. Louis- Tonight Fontbonne women's basketball fell to SLIAC foe MacMurray College 60-48. Fontbonne falls to 5-6 in SLIAC play and 6-14 overall.
Although MacMurray ended the first half with 9 fouls and Fontbonne only acquired 2, the Highlanders still walked into the locker room leading 25-22.
Fontbonne ended the half shooting with only 24% accuracy while MacMurray capitalized on their 37% shooting from the field. Ten Griffin 1st half points came from free throws while all of the Highlanders' points were scored from the field.
Team-high 1st half scorers included Samantha Voegtle for the Griffins with 8 points and Gabrielle Douglas with 10 points for MacMurray.
MacMurray surged out of the locker room and were able to grab their largest lead of 15 points with a score of 51-36 with 7 minutes remaining to secure the win.
Voegtle scored the game-high 20 points for the Griffins, finishing the night 8-8 at the line and accumulating 12 points in the 2nd half. Senior Allison Hogan recorded 11 boards for Fontbonne.
Douglas scored MacMurray's team-high 16 points off the bench and Amy Radford grabbed 14 rebounds for the Highlanders by game's end.
Fontbonne travels to Elsah, IL to take on the Principia College Panthers at 1pm this Saturday, February 2nd.
