Griffins Succumb to Iowa Wesleyan
St. Louis-Women's basketball struggled during the end of the second half, falling to Iowa Wesleyan 67-50. With the win, Iowa Wesleyan is now 15-1 in conference play, sitting at the top spot.
After an even halftime score of 27, both teams came out of the lockerroom hungry for the lead. The Griffins held a 29-27 lead, their biggest of the game, at the beginning of the second half. The Tigers scored nine straight points to take a 36-29 lead and never looked back.
The Griffins, trailing by eight, were only able to score five points in the final five minutes of the game while Iowa Wesleyan put 14 points on the board.
Fontbonne's Chelsey Freymuth rounded up 13 points, connecting on six of nine attempts. Nicole Joerger was 4-9 from the three-point line, totaling 12 points. Erica Kuhn pulled in seven defensive rebounds to lead the Griffin boards.
Iowa Wesleyan's Jana Meister totaled the game-high 19 points with Karla Vietinghoff finishing her night with 16.
Fontbonne is host on Saturday to MacMurray and their first Annual Alumni Day activities. The women's alumni game begins at 10am followed by a luncheon and then the women's varsity game against MacMurray at 1pm.
