Women's Basketball Defeats MacMurray 88-64
St. Louis- Fontbonne women's basketball was trailing 12-14 before scoring 13 points in a row to take a 25-14 lead 11 minutes before hafltime. The Griffins kept up their momentum, defeating the MacMurray College Highlanders 88-64. Fontbonne's record improves to 8-16 overall and 8-11 in conference play.
After walking out of the lockerroom with a 40-33 advantage, the Griffins posted an 18-0 run which included four three-pointers and three jumpers, all from three players. Down by 25 points, MacMurray decided to create a 9-1 scoreboard advantage, but couldn't get any closer. Both teams continued to push at the basket until time ran out.
The Griffins were without senior Chelsey Freymuth for the final 17 minutes of the game as she fouled out early. Freymuth still managed to tie the Griffin-high 18 points in 19 minutes of play with four rebounds. Sophomore Nicole Joerger connected on four of ten attempts behind the arc, totaling 18 points and five assists. Freshman Emily Haring was key with Joerger in assists, accumulating nine, and adding 15 points on the afternoon. DeAmbra Pilkinton scored 11 points with six rebounds while Chelsy Gibson contributed for Fontbonne with nine points, eight rebounds and four steals.
MacMurray's Megan Duisen scored 18 points on nine of 15 attempts with seven rebounds. Kaydee Carmody was a close second, totaling 17 points on five of eight attempts and was 6-8 from the free throw line.
The Griffins host Webster University this Tuesday, February 25th for their final game of the season, honoring senior Chelsey Freymuth.
