Griffins break four-game losing streak in the Music City
Nashville, Tenn. - Fontbonne University women's basketball broke a four-game losing streak in their first contest after Christmas, when they defeated Anderson University (Ind.) 63-47 in the D3 Music City Classic held at Trevecca Nazerene University. The Griffins are now 4-5 on the year.
Fontbonne led 20-16 with 9:34 left in the first half and trailed 23-28 at halftime after allowing Anderson to go on a 12-3 scoring run. The Griffins tied the game in the second half three times before gaining the lead with 9:13 left to play. The Griffins scored 11 straight points after the 37-37 tie and led for the remainder of the game.
Two Anderson players scored in double digits. For Fontbonne, Erika Kuhn was the only player recording a double-double, her second of the year. Kuhn scored 11 points off 7 free throws while bringing down 10 rebounds. Nicole Joerger scored the Griffin-high 13 points while forward Olivia Hollander reigned in 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Lauren Willis contributed in the win with 10 points and 6 rebounds while Emmis Haring added 10 assists, 5 points and 3 steals. This is the second game this season Haring has recorded double-digit assists.
