Griffins succumb to Eureka
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University women's basketball found themselves on the downside of Eureka College for the second time this season. The Griffins fell behind in the first half and ran out of time in their comeback try to lose 73-61 to the Red Devils. The loss sends Fontbonne to 3-7 in conference play.
Fontbonne's rocky start included a 19% shooting average to open the game, which the Griffins managed to send up to 26% by halftime. Eurea held Fontbonne to single digits for the first 10 minutes. At halftime, Eureka held a 41-22 lead.
After trailing by 27 points with 10:28 to go, the Griffins cut Eureka's lead to 13-3 run in the following six minutes and eventually cut Eureka's lead down to 10 with 1:26 left in the game, running out of clock for the comeback win.
Olivia Hollander scored the Griffin's only double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Emmie Haring secured 15 points as well for Fontbonne scoring three buckets from long range while recording eight rebounds and eight steals for Fontbonne.
Eureka's Kelsey Shoemake recorded the game-high double-double securing 19 points and 17 rebounds. Natalie Martindale drained four of her six attempts behind the arc on her way to 19 points as well.
Fontbonne has a week until they take on Spalding University at home January 31st at 1pm.
