Griffins lose fourth-quarter battle to Spalding
St. Louis, Mo.- After a 15-15 first-quarter score against Spalding University, the Fontbonne women's basketball team had a tough second quarter, shooting just 25% in the field for eight points as Spalding led 37-23 at halftime. The Griffins retaliated for a 21-10 third-quarter advantage to trail by three heading into the final frame. Olivia Hollander and DeAmbra Pilkinton tried their best to secure the win, both shooting half of their totals in that quarter alone. The teams were tied 53-53 with 5:08 remaining when Spalding scored six consecutive points and held on for the 69-62 win. Spalding's final six points were from the charity stripe.
Freshman Jessica Jordan led Fontbonne with 14 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Hollander, Pilkinton and Joerger each tallied 12 points. Overall, the Griffins blanked from three-point range on nine attempts.
For Spalding, Julia Skaggs pulled in 13 rebounds while adding 12 points to lift Spalding to their second conference victory.
Fontbonne hosts Washington University this Thursday in the Dunham Student Activity Center at 6 p.m.
