Griffins suffer heartbreaking loss to Greenville
St. Louis, Mo. - After trailing Greenville by 14 points in the first quarter, Fontbonne women's basketball led 58-56 after three. After Greenville opened the final frame with a trey, the Griffins posted a 7-2 run to lead 65-61. But Meredith Crosier wasn't about to let up for the visiting team, draining three treys in a row as Greenville went for 12 consecutive points to lead 73-65. Fontbonne cut Greenville's lead to five with 1:36 to go, but couldn't close the gap.
The Griffins posted 27 points in the third quarter as they fell 75-68. The loss stings all around for Fontbonne who has slipped past SLIAC tournament play hopes. Even if the Griffins win each of their three final contests and Webster and Spalding close out regular-season play with three losses each, Fontbonne loses the head-to-head battle against each team.
Tonight senior Erika Kuhn led the Griffins in scoring with 17 points and six rebounds. DeAmbra Pilkinton was close behind with 16 points while Emmie Haring stole the ball seven times and contributed on six assists.
Missy Deal led Greenville with 16 points.
Fontbonne is at Eureka Saturday, February 13th in the SLIAC game of the week. The Red Devils are still fighting for a spot in postseason play. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
