How It Happened
In the first quarter, a 3-pointer from Riley Guffey at the 3:33 mark gave Fontbonne the 12-6 advantage. The Griffins maintained its marginal lead the rest of the way as the closed out the half outscoring Greenville 4-2 run to lead, 16-11.
In the second, a made jumper from Raven Venegas stretched the lead out to 24-16 with 6:33 remaining. The Panthers stayed within striking distance, though they got the deficit down to 26-25 at 1:27 on Hannah Krukewitt's made free throws.
After the two teams traded buckets, Rylee Stafford made both of her free throws with 23.0 seconds left to put Fontbonne ahead 30-27 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Griffins expanded its lead out to 10 (42-32) at 6:36 on Jillian Venegas' made layup. The Panthers cut it down to 46-41 on Megan Barrett's made jumper at 2:57, however, the Griffins finished out the quarter on a 6-0 run with Jillian Venegas' layup giving Fontbonne the 52-41 lead going into the fourth.
The Griffins held onto its double-digit lead early in the fourth with Guffey hitting her 3-pointer at 8:16 to give Fontbonne a comfortable 58-45 lead.
The Panthers trimmed the lead down to 63-57 on Emily Reinneck's made free throws, but that'd be as close as they'd get with the Griffins going on for the 12-point win.
Inside The Numbers
- The Griffins shot 50.0 percent from the floor and defensively came away with a season-high 20 steals.
- Greenville was limited to a 35.8 field goal percentage and went just 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) from beyond-the-arc.
Greenville Leaders
- Hannah Krukewitt led with a team-high 12 points and went 6-of-6 from the line.
- Megan Barrett and Madelyn Stephen had 11 points each.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Rylee Stafford led all scorers with a game-high 21 points on 5-of-13 shooting and was one of four players to come away with four steals defensively.
- Raven Venegas posted a season-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and pulled down seven boards.
- Kourtney White contributed 11 points and tied her season-high with nine rebounds.
