Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest Against Eureka

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team suffered a 62-45 loss against Eureka on Tuesday night to split the season series.

How It Happened

It was a slow start for the Griffins in the first with Eureka taking a 9-2 lead at 5:34. The Griffins kept battling back and got it down to a 16-13 deficit after Rylee Stafford hit her 3-pointer.

In the second quarter, both teams struggled from the floor with Eureka shooting 31.3 percent, while Fontbonne went 2-of-11 (18.2). However, the Griffins closed out the quarter on a 6-2 run capped off by Riley Guffey's 3-pointer to trail 28-20 at the break.

In the third, a 3-pointer and a layup from Kya Harbour on consecutive benches had the Griffins down 32-28 with 4:29 remaining. The Red Devils finished the final four minutes on a 11-3 run to lead 43-31 heading into the fourth.

At 5:40, the Griffins trailed 49-40 on Stafford's layup. The team was unable to get a comeback rolling with the Red Devils outscoring Fontbonne 13-5 the rest of the way for the 17-point win.

• The Griffins shot a season-low 26.3 percent from the floor.
• Eureka shot 36.8 percent from the field and outrebounded Fontbonne 50-36 on the glass.
• The Red Devils had a 36-18 advantage in the paint.

• Riley Guffey came off the bench to tie for the game-high with 14 points.
• Kya Harbour added 11 points and a season-high five steals.
• Stafford finished with nine points and Kourtney White added seven points and nine boards.
