Game Breakdown
In the first quarter, the Griffins tied the game at 7-7 with 7:26 remaining on Kourtney White's 3-pointer. WashU held a marginal lead up until the 3:04 mark when White struck again with a layup tying the game at 14-14.
There'd be two more ties before the Griffins took its first lead of the game at 20-18 on Rylee Stafford's layup. The Bears added a couple of late made free throws tying it up at 20-20 after a quarter of play.
Fontbonne had a strong first half shooting 52.9 percent from the floor. White was already in double-figures with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
In the second quarter, the Griffins went on a 6-2 run with White's 3-pointer extending its advantage out to 26-22 with 8:37 remaining.
The Bears regained the lead but the Griffins were right there trailing 30-28 with 4:07 left until halftime. WashU, though closed out the final four minutes on a 12-3 run leading 42-33 at the break.
After WashU shot just 40.0 percent in the first quarter, the Bears bounced back in the second connecting on 56.3 percent of its shot attempts and outrebounded the Griffins, 12-5.
In the third, the Bears led 47-35 with 8:45 on the clock. Then, the Griffins took over going on a 22-2 run in just five minutes to own a 57-49 lead on Rylee Pickett's 3-pointer.
The Bears answered right back with an 11-0 run taking a 60-57 lead on Molly Gannon's 3-pointer. With just 4.0 seconds left, the Griffins tied the game on White's 3-point play.
Fontbonne was on fire from the floor in the third going 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) and connected on three 3-pointers. Stafford went 5-of-7 from the field leading with 14 points.
In the fourth, the Griffins took a 65-62 lead with 7:33 left on White's layup. Unfortunately, that was the last bucket for Fontbonne with WashU closing out regulation on a 23-0 run for the win.
