National Girls & Women In Sports Day Spotlight: Rylee Stafford
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— National Girls & Women in Sports Day starts today and over the next week we'll be highlighting the success over our women's sports teams and individuals over the past year. Next up, we'd like to spotlight women's soccer and basketball player, Rylee Stafford.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— National Girls & Women in Sports Day starts today and over the next week we'll be highlighting the success over our women's sports teams and individuals over the past year. Next up, we'd like to spotlight women's soccer and basketball player, Rylee Stafford.
Stafford, already has accumulated numerous records. However, last spring and this season the Jackson, Mo., native, added onto her illustrious resume.
Stafford, who also plays on the women's soccer team during the fall season, where she's been named to the SLIAC All-Conference Team twice, the SLIAC All-Tournament Team, and the All-Academic all four years for both soccer and basketball.
After playing soccer from August to November, the two-sport athlete in Stafford doesn't allow herself much of a break as she'll be hitting the court working on her jumper the following day once soccer season has completed.
In the spring of 2021 for basketball, while balancing both soccer and basketball seasons going on, Stafford was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Third Team after averaging a single season record of 19.9 points per game at Fontbonne. She finished second all-time in the Fontbonne record book with her 93.5 free throw percentage.
This year, the senior guard headed into the 2021-22 campaign totaling 1,253 points and needed just 375 points to surpass Amy Hauschild who sits with 1,628 points as the all-time leader.
Thus far, while chasing the all-time points record, Stafford became the all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 234 at the time against Mississippi University for Women back on December 12th.
A little over a month later, she etched her name atop the SLIAC record book with her 244th career 3-pointer to become all-time leader in SLIAC history.
Now with seven games left in the regular season, the Jackson, Mo., native, is a mere 66 points away from becoming the all-time leader in Fontbonne history in points.
On the court in her career, Stafford's been named to the SIAC All-Conference Team twice, the d3hoops.com All-Central Region Third Team and received SLIAC Player of the Year honors back in 2019-20.
In her career, Stafford averages 15.5 points per game, on a 38.7 field goal percentage, totaling 1,563 points, 262 3-pointers made, and 303 free throws made.
