Third Quarter Outburst Leads Griffins Past Red Devils

EUREKA, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's basketball team won its second straight and seventh out of its last eight after dominating Eureka, 80-54.

Ja'mise Bailey led off the bench with 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Kourtney White made it double-double number six on the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Kya Harbour finished with 12 points, while Brianna Beamer came off the bench going a perfect 5-of-5 from the line to finish with 10 points.

In the first quarter, the Griffins led 15-11 on White's 3-pointer at the 5:15 mark. The Red Devils, though outscored Fontbonne 10-3 the final five minutes leading 21-18 after one.

Both teams shot over 53.0 percent from the field in the first, while Harbour led the Griffins with six points.

The Red Devils were holding onto its lead in the second having a 29-24 advantage at the 5:12 mark. These final five minutes, however favored the Griffins as they outscored Eureka 11-2 owning a 35-31 lead at the break.

The third quarter was when the Griffins put the game away. Fontbonne outscored Eureka 25-8 and shot 47.6 percent from the floor allowing them to have a comfortable 60-39 lead going into the fourth.

Bailey led the Griffins off the bench in the third with seven points. Defensively, the Griffins held the Red Devils to a 33.3 field goal percentage and forced nine turnovers.

In the fourth, the Griffins lead was never in doubt as they shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 11-of-13 (84.6 percent) from the free throw line as they cruised to the 26-point win. 

The Griffins shot 48.1 percent from the field and connected on 19 free throws. Fontbonne forced 26 Red Devil turnovers.
