Men's Wrestling Gets Season Underway At the Pointer Open

STEVENS POINT, Wis.—The Fontbonne University men's wrestling team were in action for the first time this year at the Pointer Open.
At 125, Kody Kretzer dropped his first match by fall at 1:17 against Shandon Akeo (Central). In his next match, Kretzer fell by major decision (8-0) against Justin Brown (North Central).
Jorduan Griffin also competed at 125 and in his first contest fell by fall at 2:17 against Julian Valtierrez (North Central). Then, Griffin took on Anthony Posas (Central) in the consolation bracket, however Posas won by fall.
Daniel Bauer competed at 133 and opened with a tough fall at 4:55 against Cael Cox (Central). On the consolation side, he dropped a 6-0 decision against Sebastian Rosales (Carthage).
At 141, Josh Presley fell by technical fall (18-3 against Brock Beck (Central). He later met Joseph Mendoza (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) and it was Mendoza winning by technical fall, 19-2.
At 149, Joe Beck fell by fall at 1:52 against Simeon Norton (North Central). In his next match, Beck faced Torry Early (Wisconsin-Parkside) by was defeated by fall (0:37).
At 157, Bradyn Rawlins opened against Garrett Heater (Central) and it was Heater winning by fall at 2:44. Rawlins then squared off against Shane Piper (Wisconsin-Whitewater) but fell at 4:28.
Micah Dennis competed at 165 and dropped its opener by an 8-2 decision against Tucker Almond (Wisconsin-Stevens). After a bye, Dennis picked up his first win on the year with an 11-8 decision victory over Chase Clark (Augustana).
He then met-up with Payton Geigner (North Central) and it was Geigner, who went on to be the consolation champion, defeating Dennis by fall at 2:16.

The Griffins are back in action next Wednesday when they'll take on Nebraska Wesleyan at 4 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m., contest against Westminster at home.
